Gaffer McCain on the economy and “SPIC”

Yesterday was a very bad day for John McCain.

McCain has told America he doesn’t “know much about the economy” but does he have to prove it in such an embarrassing way?  Yesterday he declared that in his administration, the SPIC [sic] would have the support it needs to protect our savings!  (psst, Mr Senator, that’s SIPC).  And it wasn’t just a slip, he continued to reference the “SPIC.”  He further said that the “SPIC” was ineffective as a regulator.  (psst, that’s because the Securities Investor Protection Corporation is not a regulator, not even a government agency, it’s a non-profit corporation funded by its members).  I admit I had to look it up but I’m not running for president.

He has said “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” 22 times.  He even said it two days ago when the Dow experienced the biggest drop since 9/11.  He tried to explain his statement yesterday by saying that the “fundamentals” of the economy are the American workers (where is my dictionary).

McCain’s staff agrees he doesn’t know much about economics.  His surrogate and economic advisor, Carly Fiorina said on MSNBC that she didn’t think John McCain had the experience to run a corporation (in fairness, she also said that about the other three candidates).

Yesterday McCain’s top economic advisor, Douglas Holtz-Eakin wanted to prove that McCain had economic know-how and told reporters “He did this” as he held up his BlackBerry, “so you’re looking at the miracle John McCain helped create, and that’s what he did.”  Last I checked, the BlackBerry was from Canada and John had admitted he doesn't know how to send an email.  McCain’s staff hustled  to issue a statement saying McCain did not invent the BlackBerry.

To top it all off, the 72-year old McCain who has been in Washington for 26 years talked scornfully towards the “good ole’ boys inside the beltway”  Who? (hello pot, this is the kettle...)
