Should Sarah join the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits”

leggy Palin interviewHilary in pantsuit

On the 88th anniversary of women receiving the right to vote in America, Hillary Clinton gave an uplifting speech asking her supporters in the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits” (a clever reference to the beloved young adult series, “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”) to join her in supporting the Democratic Nominee for President.  In her campaign, Hillary had received nonstop jabs at her choice of clothing, the infamous Pantsuits.

Sarah Palin gave her first interview last night on ABC.  There’s no doubt Sarah’s legs looked hot in that pose (albeit, not quite hot enough to distract from the fact she had no idea what the “Bush Doctrine” was).  But why should women wear skirts and ridiculously uncomfortable high heels while the men enjoy the comfort, safety and stability of pants and flat shoes?  Ask yourself this:  can a woman in a skirt and stilettos really be taken seriously?  How ‘bout in Saudi Arabia?

leggy Couric
In her historic campaign, Hillary didn’t have the problem of being taken seriously.  But what about the other glass-ceiling-breakers who look like they stepped off the stage of Lipstick Jungle?  Will Palin suffer some of the same problems as the leggy Katie Couric, who may be forced to give up the first evening news anchor chair held by a woman?  Should she don some trousers and take ogling out of the equation?

Rachel Maddow

That’s certainly worked for Rachel Maddow who took over this week as the host of the 9PM hour on MSNBC with “The Rachel Maddow Show.”  I also happen to be a member of the “Sisterhood,” but in my career I tromped around a power plant every day.  But do we women need someone to break yet another barrier by getting the world used to women who dress like... uhh... women?
